FRP / GRP water tank installation
An FRP / GRP water tank is used to store potable (drinking) water and non-potable water for a wide range of building applications. Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd supplies, installs, replaces and repairs these tanks across Singapore.
What an FRP / GRP tank stores
Potable water
- Drinking-water storage for residential, industrial, condominium and shopping-complex buildings
- Transfer tanks and roof-top tanks
Non-potable water
- Cooling tower tanks and make-up water tanks
- NeWater and rainwater storage tanks
- Chemical-water and other storage purposes
FRP, GRP and SMC — what's the difference?
FRP and GRP are the same thing. FRP stands for Fibre Reinforced Plastic and GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic. SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) is the process used to make the panels. In Singapore, domestic water tanks are mostly made of FRP / GRP material, commonly known as the Sheet Moulding Compound Panel (SMP) tank.
Panel sizes & compliance
FRP / GRP panels come in a range of sizes, giving you flexibility to build a tank that fits the available space and capacity. All tanks supplied by Waves Fluid Engineering comply with PUB requirements as per SS245:2014.

Tank installation features
A few important points to note when installing new FRP / GRP tanks in Singapore.
Plinth spacing
Plinth centre-to-centre distance:
- 1m centre-to-centre is standard
- 2m centre-to-centre needs an I-beam as the skid base
Air vents
Each compartment normally comes with one air vent. A consultant may sometimes specify more than one air vent per compartment.
Height limits
Potable water tank height is restricted to a maximum of 4m. Non-potable water tanks have no such height restriction.
Safety (tanks ≥ 3m)
Any tank 3m or taller must have:
- A perimeter guard rail on top of the roof panels
- A safety cage for the external tank ladder
Warranty
Warranty on newly installed tanks
Our newly installed FRP / GRP water tanks come with a two-year warranty from the date of installation.
