FRP / GRP water tank installation

FRP / GRP bolted panel water tank installed by Waves Fluid Engineering

An FRP / GRP water tank is used to store potable (drinking) water and non-potable water for a wide range of building applications. Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd supplies, installs, replaces and repairs these tanks across Singapore.

What an FRP / GRP tank stores

Potable water

  • Drinking-water storage for residential, industrial, condominium and shopping-complex buildings
  • Transfer tanks and roof-top tanks

Non-potable water

  • Cooling tower tanks and make-up water tanks
  • NeWater and rainwater storage tanks
  • Chemical-water and other storage purposes

FRP, GRP and SMC — what's the difference?

FRP and GRP are the same thing. FRP stands for Fibre Reinforced Plastic and GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic. SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) is the process used to make the panels. In Singapore, domestic water tanks are mostly made of FRP / GRP material, commonly known as the Sheet Moulding Compound Panel (SMP) tank.

Panel sizes & compliance

FRP / GRP panels come in a range of sizes, giving you flexibility to build a tank that fits the available space and capacity. All tanks supplied by Waves Fluid Engineering comply with PUB requirements as per SS245:2014.

Tank installation features

A few important points to note when installing new FRP / GRP tanks in Singapore.

Plinth spacing

Plinth centre-to-centre distance:

  • 1m centre-to-centre is standard
  • 2m centre-to-centre needs an I-beam as the skid base

Air vents

Each compartment normally comes with one air vent. A consultant may sometimes specify more than one air vent per compartment.

Height limits

Potable water tank height is restricted to a maximum of 4m. Non-potable water tanks have no such height restriction.

Safety (tanks ≥ 3m)

Any tank 3m or taller must have:

  • A perimeter guard rail on top of the roof panels
  • A safety cage for the external tank ladder

Warranty

2 years

Warranty on newly installed tanks

Our newly installed FRP / GRP water tanks come with a two-year warranty from the date of installation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between FRP and GRP tanks?
There is no difference — FRP and GRP are the same material. FRP stands for Fibre Reinforced Plastic and GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic. SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) refers to the process used to mould the panels, which is why these are also called SMP (Sheet Moulding Compound Panel) tanks.
Are your FRP / GRP water tanks PUB approved?
Yes. The FRP / GRP tanks we supply comply with PUB requirements as per SS245:2014 and are PSB certified. We also handle the submission to PUB.
What can an FRP / GRP water tank store?
They store potable (drinking) water for residential, industrial, condominium and shopping-complex buildings, as well as non-potable water such as cooling-tower water, make-up water, NeWater, rainwater and chemical-water storage.
What panel sizes are available?
FRP / GRP panels are available in 1m × 2m (H), 1m × 1m (H), 1m × 0.5m (H) and 0.5m × 0.5m (H), giving you a wide range to build a tank that fits your space and capacity.
Is there a height limit for water tanks in Singapore?
Potable water tanks are restricted to a maximum height of 4m, while non-potable tanks have no height restriction. Any tank 3m or taller must have a perimeter guard rail on the roof and a safety cage for the external ladder.
Do you repair leaking tanks, or only install new ones?
We do both. Besides supplying and installing new tanks, we replace old tanks and repair leaking or broken FRP / GRP tank panels. Newly installed tanks come with a two-year warranty from the date of installation.
