Waves Fluid Engineering is a water tank contractor and supplier in Singapore. We design, supply, deliver and install FRP/GRP, HDG pressed steel, bitumen painted, SS304 and SS316 panel water tanks, and we repair, inspect and maintain existing tanks for commercial, industrial and residential buildings.
Water tank installation covers far more than lifting panels into place. It means selecting the right tank material for the water being stored, sizing the tank to the building's demand, preparing the plinth or steel base correctly, bolting and sealing the panels, fitting the internal and external ladders, vents, level controls and pipework, then testing the tank for leaks before handover.
Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd installs panel-bolted water storage tanks across Singapore, from potable water tanks in condominiums and commercial buildings to fire, sprinkler, hosereel, cooling tower, NEWater and chemical storage tanks in industrial facilities. Because we also install and service water pump systems, we can take responsibility for the complete storage and pumping installation rather than leaving you to coordinate two contractors.
We handle new installations, tank replacement, panel repair and leak rectification, and the annual inspection and cleaning that PUB requires, whichever contractor originally built the tank.
In short: FRP / GRP panel tanks are the standard choice for potable water storage in Singapore and must comply with SS 245:2014. HDG and bitumen painted pressed steel tanks are used for fire, sprinkler and hosereel water to SS 22. SS304 suits non-potable duties such as fire, chemical and treated water, while SS316 is used for drinking water and food-grade applications.
Five panel-bolted tank types, each matched to the water being stored and the standard it must meet. Select a tank to see full specifications, panel options and installation details.
FRP, GRP and SMC panel bolted tanks supplied to SS 245:2014, with PUB submission, panel repair and leaking panel replacement works.
Hot-dip galvanised pressed steel panel bolted tanks, complying with SCDF requirements and SS 22:1979 certified steel.
Pressed metal panel bolted tanks with black enamel bituminous coating for indoor installation, to SCDF requirements and SS 22:1979.
Stainless steel grade 304 pressed panel tanks, designed, supplied and installed for demanding non-potable duties.
Stainless steel grade 316 panel bolted tanks with higher corrosion resistance, supplied and installed for potable and food-grade storage.
We also supply GFS (glass fused steel) water tanks and insulated FRP panel tanks, plus custom configurations for unusual plant room dimensions.
Tank material is chosen by what the water is used for and the standard the installation must meet, not by price alone. This table summarises the usual selection in Singapore.
| Tank type | Typical application | Standard referenced | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| FRP / GRP (SMC panel) | Potable water, NEWater, cooling tower, rainwater | SS 245:2014 | Most common domestic and commercial tank in Singapore; insulated option available |
| HDG pressed steel | Sprinkler, fire and hosereel water | SS 22:1979, SCDF requirements | Hot-dip galvanised finish, suitable for outdoor installation |
| Bitumen painted steel | Indoor sprinkler, fire and hosereel water | SS 22:1979, SCDF requirements | Black enamel bituminous coating, for indoor plant rooms |
| SS304 stainless steel | Hosereel, sprinkler, fire, chemical, treated water | Grade 304 stainless | Non-potable duties; strong corrosion resistance and long service life |
| SS316 stainless steel | Drinking water, potable water, food processing | Grade 316 stainless | Higher corrosion resistance than 304; used where potable or food-grade quality is required |
FRP stands for fibre reinforced plastic and GRP for glass reinforced plastic. They describe the same tank. SMC (sheet moulding compound) is the process used to make the panels.
Panel bolted tanks are assembled from modular panels, which is what lets us build a tank to fit an awkward plant room and bring it in through a normal doorway. FRP / GRP panels are available in the following sizes.
This range of panel sizes gives a wide choice of tank dimensions, so the tank capacity can be matched closely to the building's storage requirement and the space available. We also supply individual replacement panels, so a single cracked or leaking panel can be changed without rebuilding the tank. See our FRP / GRP tank page for full panel details and repair options.
Most tank problems that appear years later start at installation. These are the points we check and get right on every job.
1m centre-to-centre plinth spacing is standard. Where 2m centre-to-centre is used, an I-beam skid base is required to carry the load.
Potable water tank height in Singapore is restricted to a maximum of 4m. Non-potable tanks have no such restriction.
Tanks 3m or higher require a perimeter guard rail on the roof panels and a safety cage on the external ladder.
Each compartment normally has one air vent, though a consultant may specify more than one per compartment.
Dual-compartment tanks let one cell be isolated for cleaning or repair while the other keeps the building supplied.
Lockable manhole covers, internal and external ladders, and level controls fitted so the tank can be inspected safely.
Water storage tanks in Singapore are regulated, and the responsibility sits with the building owner or MCST. Under the Public Utilities (Water Supply) Regulations and SS 636: Code of Practice for Water Services, whoever is responsible for a water service installation with a water storage tank must engage a Licensed Plumber at least once every 12 months to inspect the tank, clean and disinfect it where necessary, and certify it.
PUB carries out random inspections to check that tanks are properly maintained and secured, and issues reminder emails for the annual certification. You should not wait for the reminder before arranging the work. Note that the mandatory annual inspection does not apply to landed residential properties and certain private housing arrangements, though those owners are still responsible for keeping the tank clean and safe.
For new installations, tanks storing potable water must comply with SS 245:2014, and fire, sprinkler and hosereel tanks are built to SS 22 and SCDF requirements. We handle the PUB submission as part of the installation where the scope requires it.
Our newly installed FRP / GRP water tanks come with a two-year warranty from the date of installation, subject to terms and conditions.
A water tank is a twenty-year asset. We look after it from supply and delivery through to repair and the annual statutory cleaning.
New tanks designed to your requirement or your consultant's drawing, delivered to site and installed by our own team.
Leak rectification and water tank repair works on existing tanks, including cracked or leaking panel replacement without rebuilding the whole tank.
Annual tank washing and PUB inspection to keep your building compliant and the stored water safe to drink.
Not every customer need is the same, so the solution is not the same for everyone. Our general procedure is as follows.
You call or email us with the requirement, and we advise on the likely tank type and capacity.
Our team assesses the plant room, access route, base condition and existing pipework.
We send a written quotation with the tank specification and scope of work for your approval.
Panels and fittings are delivered on site, then assembled, bolted, sealed and connected.
The tank is filled and leak tested, commissioned and handed over with warranty and documentation.
