FRP (GRP) Tank installation

Water tanks are used to store water for the various purposes. In Singapore, the water tanks are mostly made of FRP / GPR (Fiber Reinforced Plastic / Glass Reinforced Plastic) material which commonly known as Sheet Moulding Compound Panel (SMP) Tank. The Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) water tanks are broadly serving for following purposes.

  • Potable water tanks (need to comply with SS 245:2014), governed by
  • Public Utilities Board, Singapore.
  • Non-potable water tanks (no compliance requirement) served
  • for storage of NEWater or serving for other non-potable
  • purposes such as cooling tower water storage tanks.

Note: Potable water tanks are made of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) which is also known as Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP), Reinforced Concrete with internal tiling or Stainless Steel. Out of this three, the most economical way to erect the potable water tanks is erection of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tanks. Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd has its own Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) water tanks in compliance with SS 245:2014 (satisfying all PUB requirement) and competent team to install the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tanks at the client premises.

Potable water tanks:

Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tanks basically comes with or without partition based on the serving areas as below

  • For residences in Singapore the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tanks comes without partition
  • For all other types of buildings Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tanks comes with partition

Note: The purpose of the partition in Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tanks is to compartment the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tanks. The reason for compartmentation is to prevent the water disturbance during the servicing / washing of either compartment. Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd shall deliver the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tanks to the clients based on their consultant design with no compromise in the latest PUB requirement

Stages in the potable water tank installation

Quotation

The clients (Plumbing companies, main contractors, residents) shall call Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd for a site survey and our engineer shall perform the site visit to assess the site conditions such as access, elevation, size(s) of the required Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank(s). Upon site inspection, our office shall send the most competitive quote for the erection of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank(s) based on the site survey.

Requirements

The client / main contractor shall erect the plinth based on the advice / requirement of Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd to facilitate the erection of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank(s). Shop drawings for the installation shall be provided by Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd prior to erection of the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank(s) before commencement of any physical works for the submission to PUB, Singapore by QP (mostly the professional Engineer of the project).

Note:If the plinth is already erected in the construction site, then Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd shall advise the client the suitability of the plinth for the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank(s)

Onsite installation of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank(s)

Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd shall arrange for the delivery of the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank(s) to the client premises and our competent team along with the proper supervision shall erect the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank(s) as per the approved shop / installation drawing(s)

Handing over

Upon completion of the installation of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank(s) Waves Fluid Engineering Pte Ltd shall arrange with the project team for the following

  • Water leak test
  • Verification of incoming / outgoing pipe sizes and positions with the client representative

Note: The project Licensed Plumber shall endorse the as-built drawings and submit to the project Professional Engineer to facilitate his submission of potable water tank works completion to PUB, Singapore

  • 1) I-beam and / or C-channels for theFiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank skid base

  • 4) Stainless steel / HDG bolts and nuts along with washer (Internal bolts and nuts are Stainless Steel and external bolts and nuts are HDG)
  • 5) Stainless steel tie-rods and washer
  • 6) Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) internal supports
  • 7) Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank internal ladder (FRP / SS 316)
  • 8) Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank side / wall panel
  • 9) Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank external ladder (HDG / SS 304 / SS 316)
  • 10) Air vent (uPVC)
  • 11) Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank roof panel

  • 13) Acrylic clear tube water level indicator
  • 14) Stainless steel bracket for manhole panel in the roof
  • 15) Baseplate with screw to secure the stainless steel bracket with the water tank
  • 16) Contour nuts to tighten the baseplate with the stainless steel bracket
  • 17) Incoming / outgoing / drain flanges with food grade rubber capped stainless steel bolts and nuts
  • 18) Top guard rail (based on client requirement)

Non-potable Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank

This type of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank(s) are erected commonly for cooling water supply and washing bay water supply and for the supply of cold water for any purpose other than drinking.

The basic differences between the potable and non-potable Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank are summarized as below
